Dear Residents of Lake Park:

The merger between the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office and the Town of Lake Park dealing with police service went into effect on October 1, 2001. At the direction of Sheriff Bieluch, I was selected to represent the Sheriffs Office as Commander of the Lake Park district.

I was extremely pleased with this selection and I look forward to serving in this capacity. I bring to the Town of Lake Park over thirty (30) years of police experience. I have worked for the New York City Police Department, Riviera Beach Police Department, and for the past twenty-two (22) years with the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office.

My philosophy is very simple Provide the best in public safety for the residents and business owners in Lake Park. My commitment to Lake Park is to work together with your honorable mayor and town commission. In doing so, we will ensure that the town needs are identified and addressed.

The Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office will work out of your old police station located at 700 6th Street. The majority of your Lake Park Officers are employed with the Palm Beach County Sheriffs office and continue to work in your community. In addition to your officers, all of the specialized programs within the Sheriffs Office are now working within the town; K-9, Aviation, Marine Unit, Gang Unit, Auto Theft, Narcotic Unit, etc. The resources within the Sheriffs Office are numerous and they will be utilized to address the needs of your community.

I intend to expand on your community policing efforts. I will be working on a project with the Children Home Society that I feel will be extremely valuable to the Town of Lake Park and its residents. To compliment our community policing efforts, we are expanding the volunteers and their efforts. We are always looking for volunteers to assist in our daily tasks. If you feel that you might be willing to participate in one of these fine programs, you can do so by contacting Robin Mayers (Volunteer Coordinator for the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office) at 967-3376 or myself at 842-3443.

Everyone at the Sheriffs Office is committed to the needs of Lake Park and its residents. You have my personal assurance that I will be responsive to these needs. I look forward to the challenges that await me. This is the first opportunity for the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office to have an impact on the Town of Lake Park. I strongly believe if the community becomes partners with the Sheriffs Office we can enhance the quality of life for all the residents of the town.

Sincerely,

Joseph P. Berkery Jr.

Commander of Lake Park Sub Station
