 SUMMARY OF BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

 

CODE COMPLIANCE BOARD
Only Town Residents May Serve

Membership:  Seven (7) regular and two (2) alternate members comprised of Town residents serving three year terms.  Members shall include, whenever possible, persons experienced in the following professions: Architect, Business, Engineer, General Contractor, Subcontractor and/or Realtor.

Purpose: To promote, protect and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Lake Park by providing an equitable, expeditious, effective and inexpensive method of enforcing the various technical laws and codes in force in the Town.

Meeting Date: Third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY (CRA)

Membership:  Membership consists of the Mayor and Town Commission plus two other positions to be filled by either residents or business owners located within the CRA District, each of whom will serve a four-year term.

Purpose: To prepare a community redevelopment plan for the Town of Lake Park Community Redevelopment district subject to the approval of the Town Commission and to recommend actions to be taken by the Commission to implement the community redevelopment plan.

Meeting Date: The CRA meets on Demand

EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD

Membership:  This Board can have up to eleven (11) members comprised of residents, non-resident business owners and school administrators each serving two-year terms.

Purpose: To serve as an advisory board to the Town Commission, addressing such topics as day care, before and after school care, adult education, bussing of students, tutoring, and all facets of primary, middle, high school, college and adult education.

Meeting Date: This Board meets on the Third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

MARINA DEVELOPMENT/CONTROL BOARD

Membership:  Five (5) regular members and two (2) alternate members comprised of residents and non-resident business owners serving three year terms.

Purpose: To study and advise the Commission on all phases of operation, activities, regulations, advertising and publicity of the Town Marina.

Meeting Date: First Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

MERIT BOARD

Membership:  Five (5) regular members, who are residents of the Town of Lake Park, serving three year terms.  No member may hold a salaried office or be employed in the service of the Town.

Purpose: To conduct reviews requested relative to any suspension, demotion, dismissal, or any other matter as specified in the merit system rules and regulations. All hearings shall be open to the public, and a written statement of facts, findings and recommendations shall be submitted to the Town Manager and Town Commission.

Meeting Date: On Demand (whenever a request is made) at 7:30 p.m.

PLANNING & ZONING/HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD

Membership:  Five (5) regular members serving two year terms and two (2) alternate members serving one year terms effective May first of each year. Board Membership is open to residents and non-resident business owners and should consist of one land use planner or architect; one architect; one civil engineer; on person engaged in business within the Town and a fifth member who need not be engaged in any particular business.  The Board shall elect a Chairman and Vice Chair from its membership in January of each year.

Purpose: To review the Town Comprehensive Plan and submit specific recommendations for amendments to the plan.  To hear and make recommendations to the Town Commission with regard to development plans within the Town, issues relating to the Zoning Code; to issue or deny certificates of appropriateness or special appropriateness; to approve historical markers and issue certificates of recognition; to establish guidelines for preservation; to promote awareness of historic preservation and its benefits to the Town.

Meeting Date: 1st Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

TREE BOARD

Membership:  Five (5) regular members, comprised of residents and non-resident business owners who shall serve three year terms

Purpose: To prepare an inventory of all trees on public property within the town; to assist the public works director to develop and administer a written care guide for care, preservation/planting and/or removal of trees and shrubs in parks, rights-of-way and other public areas.

Meeting Date: First Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

The Town of Lake Park has two (2) board positions open.  Any citizen interested is asked to pick up an application at the Town Hall and submit it to the Town Clerk. If you are unable to make it to the Town Hall please call 881-3311 and ask for the Town Clerk to fax or mail you a copy of the application.

The Town of Lake Park has one board position open on the following Boards.

The Code Compliance Board acts as a peer panel to address residents with code violations. Each case is reviewed and residents are either granted additional time to bring their properties into compliance or assessed fines for violations.

  • The Library Board works to improve the services and capabilities of the Lake Park Library and plans programs to better educate the citizens on informative topics.
  • LIBRARY BOARD Only Town Residents May Serve
  • Membership: Five (5) members comprised of Town residents serving two (2) year terms. 
  • Purpose: To serve in an advisory capacity to assure representation of the ideas of citizens and taxpayers of the town relative to the functions and operation of the municipal library and reading rooms in the town; to establish and oversee library policies and procedures and make pertinent recommendations to the Town Commission regarding expenditures of monies collected or donated.
